Biotech jobs are everywhere, yet somehow students, graduates, PhDs, and industry veterans looking for jobs are even more plentiful. You may be asking yourself “how can I stand out as a top candidate for one of these jobs?”
Welcome to How To Get A Job In Biotech!
My goal on this website is to guide you on the job searching journey. Through my 10 years in the biotech industry I’ve learned out little help there is out there, especially for students and recent grads. There are three questions that I hear most often from people seeking biotech jobs:
1. How do I get the experience needed for an entry level job?
2. What kinds of opportunities are there in biotech besides working in a lab?
3. I’ve applied to a hundred jobs and I haven’t heard a single response… What am I doing wrong?
If any of these sound like you, then you’re in the right place!
I want to kick things off by providing an overview of what How To Get A Job In Biotech can do for you and what my plans for the website are.
There are plenty of job search resources out on the internet already and some of them are extremely helpful. Unfortunately, these resources are spread out and require a lot of effort on your part of research. On top of that, there are always conflicting opinions out there and the right answer may differ depending on the industry you want to break into and even the company you’re applying to. Most online resources are generic tips and forget that there is an actual person on the other side with unique skills, goals, and perspectives.
On How To Get A Job In Biotech I’ll guide you in a way that will result in job searching habits that will help you tailor your entire application package towards the biotech industry and towards the company you’re applying to. I’m here to provide one cohesive place for all your biotech job searching needs.
We’ll do some introspection to determine what drives you in the biotech industry, assist in actually searching for the job, guide you through some ways to network, and (of course) walk through the details of writing your resume, cover letter, and preparing for an interview.
But how are we going to do all these things?
The primary method for you to get all this info is through my 8 Step Series that goes guides you in each of these aspects of the job searching process. I’ve tried to write this in a way that is energetic and enjoyable. I don’t want you to feel like a number out there, because that is one of the most discouraging parts of trying to find a job.
